I grew up in Thunder Bay and I miss how open and empty the wilderness is up here. I was excited to shoot a few mini sessions in this beautiful environment. I got to meet a bunch of new people and catch up with old friends (we haven’t aged A BIT). I  enjoyed meeting and shooting everyone! Thank you to all the families for allowing me to capture your connections! I love what we created! (Galleries will be coming soon!)

This session has been in the works for almost a year and a half! Kirsten got in contact with me to purchase a gift certificate for her sister’s (25th?) birthday. Kirsten’s emails were funny, friendly and laid back – exactly how this family was when we finally met!

It took me about 15 seconds into meeting this family for me to know that I was going to love this shoot. I was greeted at the door by a very friendly and cuddly dog who helped show me around as I got my gear ready and waited for the family. I FINALLY got to meet Kirsten after our year long correspondence and she was exactly as I expected. Then the kids showed up. They were so friendly and energetic and eager to show me the beach and their sea glass collection. Then Kelly showed up – beer in hand with hair that just needed a few minutes to dry (I am so jealous of how amazing her hair looks when air dried…I can barely leave the house without drying my hair, never mind being presentable for a photo shoot!). Then Dad showed up and started to play around with his girls. This is a FUN family. Full of love and energy.

The other detail that I loved about this shoot was that I got to finally do a portrait session on an island in the Thousand Islands. If you haven’t visited here – you are missing out. The scenery is stunning. Their island was no exception. I loved being able to kick off my shoes and leap around the bedrock and moss as we created these images. I love that we shot in a place that was so close to this family’s heart.

Kelly, Owen and family – thank you so much for having me out to photograph your family! Being out on the water and hanging out on the island with you all was so rejuvenating. You are a beautiful family and an absolute joy to photograph. Enjoy your sneak peek! I’ll be in touch with your gallery soon!
